Chance The Rapper Brings Rap To Country Music’s Hometown With a Sold-Out Show

Just a few weeks after his seminal mixtape Coloring Book went certified RIAA Platinum, Chance The Rapper has brought the album back to life in Nashville. Chance is on the road for the Grammy Award winning project’s 10th anniversary, a celebration of the mixtape’s long-lasting legacy. He is also fresh off of his sophomore studio album, 2025’s STAR LINE, the long awaited follow up to his 2019 debut.
Getting the night rolling much like the mixtape, Chance opens the show with “All We Got.” Backed with brass, a choir, and live percussion, “All We Got” is a vibrant opener that quickly sets the tone. Chance has long steered towards themes of gratitude, often seeking out the underutilized gospel-infused side of hip-hop to generate his uplifting performances. This is certainly the case here and translates incredibly live, with the crowd quickly getting on the same page as Chance and feeding into his energy. He is a stellar performer, steering the audience and effortlessly establishing control of the stage on song one.
Shifting to the other pole of Coloring Book, Chance lands on “Blessings,” another gospel inspired track. Inspired may be a little loose here, as this track functions more akin to a prayer, with Chance digging into his faith and freedom, uplifting his praise and thanks in front of the sold-out crowd. While emotionally moving, the track is also not afraid to lean heavy on the instrumentation, with the bass shaking the iconic windows of the Mother Church, an apt setting given the subject matter. Similarly, in true Ryman fashion, you could feel the pews and the floorboards shake as the audience stomps and dances.

Rounding out his first three with “Smoke Break,” Chance keeps the opening bout planted firmly in Coloring Book. While thematically consistent with the rest of the show, “Smoke Break” keeps one foot deep in nostalgia. This comes across crystal clear in Chance’s delivery, offering up a more melodic flow overtop the light and airy percussion. While yearning for the days of old, a feeling all too real now ten years older, the song feels distinctly happy. Chance’s backing drummer really shines here, taking over the majority of the skipping beat as Chance’s DJ and backing MC joins him on the downstage.

There is still a lot of ground to cover on this tour and Chance The Rapper seems unlikely to let off the gas anytime soon. Stops in Memphis, New Orleans, and Houston all lead way to a massive West Coast run before Chance rounds out the year back in the Midwest.

For fans nostalgic for the 2016 era of rap and hip-hop, this tour really feels like a no-brainer. Coloring Bookwas without a doubt one of the most iconic albums of the era, as evidenced by its Grammy win and recent Platinum certification, so the opportunity to see it celebrated live for its 10th anniversary should not be passed up. Furthermore, Chance The Rapper is without a doubt one of the best MCs in the game, not only delivering excellent renditions of his 2016 classic, but also landing blow after blow from his other projects.
