Geese Are Unapologetically Geese. That Should Excited You.

Fresh off an extensive European tour and a blistering run of summer festivals, Geese are at their zenith. The NYC quintet have had one hell of a ride since the release of their major-label sophomore album, 2025’s Getting Killed, with the entire rock world (and popular culture as a whole) becoming acquainted with the group overnight. For context, the band’s last show in Nashville was just over a year ago at the 200-cap Blue Room, a far cry from the nearly 5,000 in attendance for their sold-out two-night Ryman debut.

Geese come out in full force with “Trinidad,” an explosive jazz-rock scorcher that immediately set the tone for the night’s show. For those unfamiliar with the track, it is the opener from Getting Killed and without a doubt a fan-favorite, layered with eerie, off-putting verses sandwiching it’s sweltering choruses. Frontman Cameron Winter is absolutely phenomenal here, switching from ominous lows of the verses into an all-out rager when the song comes crashing down in the chorus. Winter doesn’t shy away from showing it either, with the raw anguish of the song washed across his face. Bassist Dominic DiGesu is also stellar here, with his scuzzy groove remaining omnipresent throughout the track’s highs and lows, dragging a sense of steadiness through what is otherwise a whirlwind of emotion and sound. “Trinidad” was an excellent and unexpected start to what would soon become an incredible night.

Keeping their foot firm against the pedal, Geese shift into “Cobra,” an equally chaotic—albeit more lighthearted—track from Getting Killed. Winter, dynamic as always, shifts to a keyboard on stage right, leaving the downstage in the faithful hands of Emily Green. While “Cobra” may not jump out immediately as the most guitar-driven song in Geese’s discography, I believe that’s what makes Green stand out so profoundly: she doesn’t need to be the focus. While she certainly had no issues shredding throughout the night, the gentle touch on “Cobra” was profound.

Sticking to Getting Killed’s track list, Geese jump into “Husbands,” another wide-ranging jazz-infused indie rock favorite. Drummer Max Bassin is immediately felt, with intricate and eccentric percussion cutting through the mix. Bassin has been a firm hand leading up to this point, much of Geese’s sonic palate relies on his beat, but “Husbands” sees him metaphorically step out from behind the kit. It is rare that you see a song so reliant on percussion, but rarity is Geese’s specialty—the band has no problem stepping into the left-of-center nor do they fear the abstract.

Geese’s two-night stint in Nashville was only the opening number for the band’s run of sold-out North American date. Two nights back home in New York at Forest Hills Stadium, a trio of sold-out shows at LA’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and a pair of shows at Chicago’s Salt Shed all line the band’s calendar. While tickets are largely gone, there’s still a handful to be hand. If you want them, you’ll have to act fast.

There is a reason everyone and their mother is talking about Geese, they’re simply electric. New York City has been the birthplace of numerous indie-rock legends over the years, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, and LCD Soundsystem all come to mind, and it is clear that Geese intend to thrust themselves onto that list. Getting Killed is one of the best rock albums of the past ten years and Geese have brought it to life flawlessly live on stage, performing every song from its track list. I am a firm believer that live shows are what cement a band’s staying power; shows build an intimate connection with the music that is otherwise hard to form. Breaking out from your home market and venturing out into the world beyond is not an easy task, doubly so for indie rock acts with no immediate radio buzz and only recent industry backing. But that is sort of the point, Geese are unapologetically Geese, and that’s what makes them special.
